Milk Products currently manufactures more than 700 different formulations and produces more than 60 million pounds of milk replacers and supplements each year. Our manufacturing facility is located in Chilton, Wisconsin. The plant began making condensed liquid milk in 1911 under the Carnation brand, and switched to Carnation instantized, powdered milk in 1955. In 1979, we transitioned again to manufacturing milk replacers for livestock. We are now one of the nation's largest manufacturers of high-quality milk replacers and other young animal products.

We continue to use innovative technology to manufacture instantized milk replacers and animal health products superior to those from other manufacturers. What really makes us stand apart from the rest is our commitment to our customers. Our goal is to provide the best product, service, and value in the industry, while providing a “problem-free experience” with every customer interaction. Our customers’ loyalty and the dedication of our distribution to growth in the feed industry have made Milk Products the company it is today, and we look forward to an exciting future working together.

Magic Crystals® Technology

Milk Products' plant in Chilton, Wisconsin is the only facility in the world using the Peebles System to make instantized milk replacer. It is the same technology that allowed the Carnation Company to revolutionize the human powdered milk industry in the 1950's. Although the patent for instantizing has expired, this system still produces superior quality milk replacer that cannot be duplicated.

The heart of our manufacturing equipment is the hydrator tower, where a small amount of moisture is added to dry powder ingredients. As the slightly damp milk replacer particles fall down through the hydrator they stick together, forming larger, snowflake-like "agglomerates." The excess moisture is then gently removed in our state-of-the-art fluid bed dryers. When the instantized (agglomerated) milk replacer powder is mixed into water at feeding time, these larger particles literally drink up the water, which causes the powder to melt into solution with little effort on the feeder's part. Easy to mix product saves time and results in a nutritious, uniform milk replacement solution. These easy mixing agglomerates are our famous "Magic Crystals" and are the hallmark of all of our milk replacer products.

For 4 decades, calf raisers have trusted Sav-A-Caf® brand products for performance, quality and value. The Sav-A-Caf brand was created in 1969 by Tri-Mutual (a company that later became IntAgra). The original product line featured medicated Scours Control products for calves, and was later expanded to include Electrolytes Plus, Dried Bovine Colostrum and liquid iron supplements. In 1996, Milk Products came to an agreement with IntAgra to purchase the Sav-A-Caf brand and make it our own. The product line has since grown even more to include milk replacers and other baby animal care products for many species of farm animals and pets. We completed the purchase in 2000, and now have the pleasure of celebrating with IntAgra 40 years of success with Sav-A-Caf brand products.

ISO 9001:2000
Milk Products is proud to be the only ISO 9001:2000 Certified manufacturer of baby animal nutrition products in North America. Our Quality Management System was awarded the ISO certificate in May 2005, and we successfully completed re-certification in May of 2008. Re-certification is required every three years, but we are audited by an independent, ISO approved company annually, and conduct internal audits on a quarterly basis.

ISO is the international abbreviation for the International Organization for Standardization, an independent organization that helps companies and governments develop and adhere to internationally recognized standards for manufacturing and business. ISO also provides manufacturers with standards for developing quality management systems to facilitate continual improvement of their processes, products and services. ISO certifies that these systems meet the standards set, and audits each company at regular intervals to ensure that companies continue to meet these high standards. ISO certification is an internationally recognized achievement in manufacturing.

For Milk Products being ISO Certified means we are required to adhere to strict written protocols on everything from production and quality control methods to business and administrative processes. In order to remain certified, we must work every day towards our goal of continual improvement in providing products and services that meet or exceed our customer's expectations.

FCI
Milk Products is certified by the Facility Certification Institute (FCI) that we do not handle or store proteins prohibited in ruminant feeds. This is in accordance with FDA regulation Title 21, CFR § 589.2000, Substances Prohibited in Ruminant Feed. This regulation is designed to prevent feeding ruminant animals (cattle, sheep, goats, llamas & alpacas, etc.) proteins that are believed to present a risk of infectivity for TSE (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) diseases such as BSE (Mad Cow Disease) in cattle, or Scrapie in sheep. The certification is intended to enhance consumer confidence in the safety and wholesomeness of our food animal supply, which is the best in the world.

FCI is sanctioned by the American Feed Industry Association, of which Milk Products is an active member. Inspections are conducted annually to ensure compliance and we receive a new certificate each year.

For Milk Products being FCI Certified means that we must remain diligent every day to inspect all materials and trucks that come to our facility to identify any potential sources of contamination with prohibited materials, and eliminate them.
